Kicking the Day Off Right
What’s the key to being pup ready as a groomer at BNB? For our groomers, it means being among the first to pull into the parking lot. They make it a goal to arrive 30-40 minutes early so they can set up their stations by getting the shampoos, conditioners, and towels set up before clients arrive. All BNB groomers make sure to review past notes from their clients’ visits to be up-to-speed on what the client and parents’ preferences are. Groomer Becky West says that this is a crucial step to a successful day in our “spaw”—well, that and an ample amount of coffee!
More Than Just a Haircut: The Daily Rhythm of Our Grooming Team
Our groomers pride themselves on the level of care and pampering we provide BNB guests. Grooming doesn’t just entail a quick wash in a tub. In addition to bathing, scrubbing and soaping routines, our pups are offered special treatments such as light massages, hand blow drying, and styling with brushing and haircuts.

For groomer Krystyl Oxford, one of the biggest parts of her job is ensuring the highest level of customer service possible. She says that getting to know each dog as well as their families is a key part of the grooming process.
“People are trusting you with their beloved animals and it is very important to earn and keep that trust,” Krystyl said. “Each dog is different and handles grooming in their own unique way, and it is so important to learn each dog and their dos and don’ts.”
A Very Special Career Choice
Becky has been grooming animals for over two decades, starting as a cat groomer in a Galveston, TX, veterinary clinic. She says that her deep affection for both cats and dogs makes grooming the perfect career for her. “I have a gift with the pets I groom, and I make a [potentially] uncomfortable, scary thing for them as comforting and positive as possible. Knowing this, my passion for this career stays alive!”
For Krystyl, the decision to become a groomer was a simple one. “Animals have always been a passion of mine and dogs specifically bring me so much joy! I got started as a bather about six years ago, worked up to a groomer about five years ago, and I have been hooked ever since!”
Little-Known Facts About Life as a Groomer

Your groomer is actually an essential part of keeping your pet healthy and happy. “From the tips of their ears down to the very tips of their toes, and all the way in between, we pay great attention,” says Becky. “We can see every inch of their skin and can catch some health concerns early on that some pet parents may not notice as early on.”
We not only want your pup to look great but we also value and care about their health and want to make sure they’re as healthy as possible. For that reason, our groomers treat them as if they were our own family (because we know you consider them a central part of yours!).
The Keys to a Successful Grooming Session
“Dogs are creatures of habit,” says Becky, “so staying with the same groomer and completing each grooming task in the same order helps a pet feel more confident and less scared because they know what to expect. This also ensures trust between the groomer and the pet.” Becky also feels that her ability to maintain a calm presence—taking the grooming session as slowly as needed and speaking gently to her clients—is a key to success.
Grooming fearful and anxious dogs can take time and patience. Our groomers depend on a variety of tools and techniques to help their clients feel comfortable. Resources such as happy hoodies that go over their ears to help cut out the loud noises that can accompany a grooming session, or belly bands to help our them feel more stable standing on the table. We also take extra time and give them as many breaks as need to make it less stressful, and they of course get lots of love and encouragement to make sure they have a positive experience.
