Spring is in the air… which means you’re probably opening windows, decluttering closets, and wondering how you accumulated so much stuff.
But while you’re deep-cleaning your home, don’t forget—your dog has their own version of “spring cleaning” that’s just as important (and let’s be honest… probably a little smellier).
At BNB, we see it all this time of year—shedding coats, well-loved toys hanging on by a thread, and beds that have definitely seen better days. So here’s your go-to guide for giving your pup a fresh start this spring.
Time to Break Up with Old Toys
We know—but it’s their absolute favorite! However, if that squeaky toy is missing an eye—or most of its stuffing—it might be time to break ties.

Toss toys that are:
Pro tip: Rotate toys instead of having them all out at once. It keeps things “new” and exciting without constant buying.
Wash All the Things (Yes, All of Them)
Dog beds, blankets, crate pads—they collect dirt, hair, drool, and… mystery smells. Aim to wash bedding at least once a month (more if your dog is a mud magnet). You’ll also want to vacuum beds between washes and check for wear and flattening—some beds just stop being comfortable over time. And if it smells like your dog from across the room, it’s time to replace.
While you’re at it, don’t forget about washing those collars, leashes, and harnesses. These get super gross, super fast—especially in spring mud season. Give them a refresh by tossing fabric collars and leashes in the wash, wiping down leather or specialty materials, and checking for fraying or weakened clips. Sometimes it’s easy to forget about leashes in particular, so if they’re used frequently you’ll want to do this as part of your spring cleaning routine.
Shedding Season Is Here (Ready or Not)
We all know it—spring means blowing coats, extra brushing, and fur everywhere. Regular grooming during this time can help reduce shedding, prevent matting, and keep skin healthy. And for you, it will also cut down on the amount of dog fluff you find in your house! Even short-haired dogs benefit from a seasonal reset. Let us know if you’d like to schedule some time in the BNB grooming spa to help you with this spring cleaning chore.
In addition to the extra fur, with more outdoor time comes more exposure to dirt, allergens, and irritation. Take a minute to check paws for cracks, debris, or irritation. You’ll also want to look for dry or flaky skin, and keep nails trimmed for comfort and mobility.
Let BNB Help Lighten the Load
And if you’re looking at this list thinking, “Yeah. I’m not doing all that this weekend.” We get it! Between work, kids, and everything else life throws at you, keeping up with your dog’s care can feel like a lot—especially this time of year. That’s where we come in! In addition to our grooming services, we can also help take the pressure off with daycare that gives your dog safe, supervised play (and burns off that spring energy), or boarding care that you can trust when you’re traveling or just need a break. We’ll provide plenty of attention, structure, and care—so your dog goes home happy (and usually a little more tired).
Book your dog’s next daycare day or boarding stay with us and let us handle the messy, high-energy side of spring—so you can enjoy the clean, cuddly version at home. Because a fresh, happy dog just makes everything better.
